Rebound hammer test

The rebound hammer test is a non-destructive test that measures the rebound number of a mass projected against the concrete surface. This number is then converted into compressive strength using a correlation method, making it possible to assess a structural element without taking a core.

The rebound number depends on several parameters: the condition and orientation of the test surface, the age of the concrete, its moisture content, the type of aggregate and surface carbonation. The choice of correlation is therefore decisive for the reliability of the result.

With our testing software "CiviLab", you enter the series of readings, automatically discard outliers, apply orientation corrections and obtain the estimated compressive strength. CiviLab also produces high-quality reports and archives them properly.

In CiviLab, the available methods and correlations are:

  • I²/32;
  • Lima and Silva (2000) - Cylindrical;
  • Gonçalves (1995) - Cylindrical;
  • Boukhelkhal (2015) - Cylindrical;
  • Single transformation curve;
  • Other user-defined correlations.

Test sheet organization:

Data entry is structured by block, level and element, with the impact angle α of each element. For each reading reference, CiviLab displays the rebound number, the corresponding strength in MPa, then the average strength of the element.

CiviLab allows you to:

  • Calculate the average rebound number of a concrete structural element;
  • Estimate the compressive strength using the selected correlation;
  • Calculate the average strength per element and per level;
  • Save and print the results properly;
  • Organize test reports.
