Nourin · Test interpretation

Atterberg limits interpretation

Nourin takes the liquid and plastic limits already measured in CiviLab, places the soil on the Casagrande chart, describes its consistency and writes the interpretation paragraph for the sheet.

What Nourin reads in the sheet

  • The liquid limit WL from the regression on the test points;
  • The plastic limit WP and the plasticity index IP;
  • The apparatus used: Casagrande cup at 25 blows, 20 mm cone (BS) or 17 mm cone (NF P94-052-1);
  • The selected reference chart: Casagrande 1948, BS or ASTM;

What Nourin does with it

  • Positions the soil relative to the A-line: IP = 0,73 (WL − 20);
  • Gives the plasticity class and consistency state of the soil;
  • Compares the values with the indicative ranges for the soil type and flags anything outside the expected range;
  • Writes the interpretation comment, in French or English;
Nourin does not recalculate c, φ, E or γ from the limits: these parameters cannot be derived from an identification test. It reads what CiviLab measured and interprets it.
